Ryan Raveen Raj is a
13-year-old boy who was diagnosed with Down's Syndrome at a very early age. He
currently undergoes skills based education in SM Sinar Bintang, Kepong,
where he has managed to maintain good grades while showing noticeable
improvements as time progresses.
When Ryan was 11 years
old, he started communicating by drawing. What first started off as mere
scribbles, slowly began to take shape as animals and characters that Ryan had a
fondness for. This was a huge breakthrough, considering the fact that before
this Ryan did not have much of an interest in writing.
Upon discovering his new
interest, we decided to exploit it in a way to help him improve as an
individual. Fortunately, during the course of our search for someone who could
help us, we came across an article about Tan See Ling in The Star newspaper. We
we're overjoyed as we had finally found someone who was willing to teach art to
children with special needs.
He started painting with
Tan See Ling in late 2012 and since then he has shown great interest in art and
crafts. Over the course of his time with See Ling, he has produced several
pieces of paintings featuring animals he loves, including our two dogs Shadow
and Trixie.
Day by day, his technique and form with the brush is improving. Our hope
for the future is that Ryan may continue to express himself through art and
continue to improve with the help of Ms.Tan See Ling.
