GOIK ZUWERN’S BIODATA 11-year old Zuwern has displayed a keen interest in drawing since he was a toddler. It was through art classes with his then teacher, June Kok Shi Hui that he developed his fine motor skills and learned about colour tones and perspectives. Zuwern’s first drawings were those of dinosaurs and superheroes. Under the tutelage of Tan Seeling since December 2015, Zuwern advanced to painting acrylic on canvas. His favourite subjects are dogs, cats and other animals, and his series of painting include Puppies, Dragons, Star Wars and Pokemon characters. Zuwern and his sister, Zerlynde recently jointly participated in the “This is My Mexico Children’s Drawing Contest 2016 – Let’s Draw About Mexican Music and Traditions” organised by the Institute of Mexicans Abroad. To their delight, their artwork was selected to be 1 of the 12 winning pieces out of a total of 11,473 entries worldwide. The Paddington Bear series of paintings currently being exhibited is inspired by a recent trip to London with his family. Zuwern’s early works of Paddington Bear depicts the English Icon frolicking amongst famous landmarks of London. He then moved on to paint scenes of Paddington Bear in his daily life. Zuwern hopes to travel to Tokyo next so he can paint Paddington Bear shopping in Ginza, and Paddington Bear enjoying his sushi. Part of the proceeds from the sale of the paintings will be channelled to Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre.
