GOIK ZERLYNDE’S BIODATA Zerlynde, born in August 2004 started scribbling and drawing when she was 3. Her first art experiments were with colour pencils and crayons. In 2012 with the help of her then art teacher, June Kok Shi Hui, Zerlynde created a mix media artwork using collage, sequins and acrylic which was auctioned off at a charity event organized by a Rotary Club in Malaysia. From December 2015 onwards, under the tutelage of Tan Seeling, Zerlynde started painting more seriously using acrylic paint on canvas. She has since produced more than 30 pieces of painting, mostly of the fantasy art genre. She also has a fascination with owls and has a vast collection of all things owls, including her sketches and paintings of them. Zerlynde and her brother, Zuwern recently jointly participated in the “This is My Mexico Children’s Drawing Contest 2016 – Let’s Draw About Mexican Music and Traditions” organised by the Institute of Mexicans Abroad. To their delight, their artwork was selected to be 1 of the 12 winning pieces out of a total of 11,473 entries worldwide. The Studio Ghibli series of paintings currently being exhibited is inspired by the extraordinary animation works produced by the popular Japanese animation film studio. Different seasons and landscapes are portrayed in each painting to convey the beauty and brevity of Japanese art and culture. Part of the proceeds from the sale of the paintings will be used to buy books and art materials for underprivileged children of a chosen home.
